Your Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader homeworld isn't necessarily a unique starting location or planet. Instead, your choice here grants additional perks and boons, more akin to having a few core passives to suit your build. Our guide discusses the best homeworlds in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader so you can find the ideal options for your character.

The best homeworlds in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader

We feel that the best homeworlds in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader are Fortress World, Death World, and Voidborn. These have unique perks that can either help you survive or deal more damage. Core features are automatically unlocked upon selecting a particular homeworld. Likewise, talents can be selected upon leveling up--you should find these at the bottom of the list whenever you're able to pick talents. Lastly, bear in mind that you can respec your character during the campaign, but you won't be able to change your character's or companions' homeworlds.

Best homeworld for burst DPS: Fortress World

For those looking to dish out a lot of damage, we find that the best homeworld in Rogue Trader is the Fortress World. This is due to two factors:

  • Core feature: Never Stop Shooting (NSS) - Kills grant a stack of +10 NSS. At the start of your next turn, there's a chance based on your current NSS value that your attack won't cost action points (AP).
  • Attributes: +5 Perception and Willpower; -5 Fellowship.
  • Talent: Hail of Steel - +1% bonus to dodge against ranged attacks for each shot made during a round; burst attacks grant +10 stacks of NSS.
  • Talent: Combat Addict - +7 to Ballistic Skill, Perception, and Willpower while in combat; -7 to Intelligence, Fellowship, Perception, and Willpower while out of combat.
  • Talent: Spare Magazine - The first reload in combat costs 0 AP; reloading a weapon also grants +10 stacks of NSS.

All in all, you're looking at a killing machine that focuses primarily on the usage of burst weapons (the Soldier archetype comes to mind). By increasing your Never Stop Shooting stacks, you'll also gain a higher chance of free attacks that don't cost action points.

Fortress World characters benefit from the Never Stop Shooting perk.

Best homeworld for melee DPS or tanks: Death World

Those who want to get into the thick of the fray might want to choose the Death World. Its perks include:

  • Core feature: Survival Instinct - When HP (i.e. wounds) drops below 30%, gain 20% of your maximum HP as temporary HP; +20% bonus to dodge and armor while you have at least one temporary HP from any source.
  • Attributes: +5 Strength, Agility, and Toughness; -5 Intelligence and Fellowship.
  • Talent: Trusty Weapons - +10% critical hit chance for axes, hammers, and las weapons.
  • Talent: Brutal Hunter - +15% critical hit chance against targets that are bleeding or those with less than 50% HP.

As you can see, choosing Death World means you'll want to get up close and personal with enemies, which is great for the Warrior class. In fact, most companions in the game also come from a Death World. Lastly, we recommend wielding a Thunder Hammer as soon as you find one. The weapon type has amazing area-of-effect capabilities.

Death World characters should definitely head straight for packs of enemies.

Best crit-based/sniper homeworld: Voidborn

The Voidborn option is mostly luck and crit-based. While Fortress World and Death World picks tend to be somewhat straightforward, Voidborn is keeping your fingers crossed that you get a timely proc:

  • Core feature: Fortune - Reroll any failed attack, dodge, parry, or skill test with a 20% chance of success; any enemy dodge or parry against you has a 20% chance to fail after a successful roll.
  • Attributes: +5 Willpower and Intelligence; -5 Strength.
  • Talent: Bloody Mess - Anytime you score a critical hit, there's a 10% chance that the damage will be doubled.

To be frank, it's the Bloody Mess talent that really kicks things up a notch. Although the proc chance is fairly low, if it does trigger, you could see bosses and elite foes drop instantly.

Doubling your critical damage as a Voidborn character is extremely satisfying.
Don't forget that there are other options, too, such as Forge World, which even lets you select from various buffs based on a bonus from an attribute. Likewise, there's Imperial World, which adds +10 to an attribute of your choosing.
