Developer BioWare is at long last pulling off the curtain surrounding Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, teasing some of the locations that will be central to the upcoming RPG ahead of a "full reveal" in Summer 2024.
The teaser, posted as part of Dragon Age Day on BioWare's official accounts, sweeps over a map of the game's fantasy world of Thedas. It highlights a few important locations that will sound familiar to those who have played previous games in the series, like the countries of Antiva, Rivain, and the Anderfels.
Each section of the map is accompanied by a different voiceover, giving players an idea of what to expect from each location. The Grey Wardens, a key faction in previous entries, is mentioned as the teaser hovers over the Anderfels, with a gruff voice stating "Grey Wardens don't hide in our castle. I won't ask good soldiers to turn tail and run!"
The titular Dreadwolf himself also makes a brief voiceover appearance at the end of the trailer, saying, "All the world will soon share the peace and comfort of my reign." Fans will remember that the Dreadwolf, an elvish god of rebellion and betrayal, is none other than the Dragon Age: Inquisition companion character Solas in disguise. He is seeking to restore the world to the elves and doesn't seem concerned about how much death or destruction he has to cause in order to make his wish a reality.
BioWare first announced Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2018 at The Game Awards. Since then little has been revealed about the game officially, although leaked gameplay said to have been inspired by Sony's God of War reboot did find its way online towards the beginning of 2023. Recent reports have suggested the game is targeting a Summer 2024 release but could possibly be pushed back to 2025. Bioware laid off around 50 employees in August, at the same time parting ways with a unionized team of quality assurance testers. Some of the fired employees are now suing their former employer, while the laid-off QA testers recently picketed outside of BioWare's Edmonton office.
Aside from Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, BioWare is also working on the next entry in the Mass Effect franchise, with a recent teaser for N7 Day showing off what could be the game's protagonist. However, a report suggests that given Dragon Age: Dreadwolf's lengthy development timeline, the new Mass Effect might not release until 2029 or later.
