The role of the titular super spy in James Bond was offered to actor Mel Gibson, with him turning it down - which wass a very good thing. According to a recent interview, Mel Gibson was offered the part of James Bond when he was 26, with the actor turning it down due to the serious commitment the role entailed. While turning down such a huge franchise is often not a great career choice, the audience is very lucky that Mel Gibson never played James Bond.
